Palma de Mallorca bans holiday apartment rentals. Canary Islands will follow.
8 Jun 2018
As from the coming month of July, owners of a flat or apartment located in Palma de Mallorca will not be able to rent their house to tourists. Leasing to tourists will be allowed for single-family homes (isolated houses or villas) with direct access to the street.
Canary Islands have also drafted a new decree prohibiting holiday rental in tourist areas and hardening the requirements to carry out this activity in the rest of territories, such as the obligation to have a 24-hour hotline or professional license to rent.
The National Commission on Markets and Competition (CNMC in Spanish) discusses with concern the surge of prohibitions to rent holiday flats.
