Elections in Spain

29 Dec. 2014

In 2015 Spain will hold municipal and regional elections (24 May) and general elections (on or before Sunday, 20 December).

The 2011 general election resulted in a major victory of the “Partido Popular (PP)”. After four years of government and parliamentary majority, ratings for the PP government have fallen because of breaching election promises with the approval of new austerity measures and spending cuts, followed by corruption scandals. The economic recovery did not prevent collapse in support to both major parties, PP and PSOE, in the 2014 European Parliament election where the new “Podemos” party surprised attracting the support of those disaffected, which seems to be the electors´ voting preference by the end of 2014 according to the latest polls.
